Tool Building + Building Without Tools.
This course examines the role of the tool for artists, designers, and scientists. The history of how we work is essential to understanding the future of how we want to work. What works and what doesnt, what needs improvement and what can we do without entirely. Some say the best form of record is a paper and pen because it can't run out of battery. This class takes a critical look into manufacturing and handbuilding. What has our machinery done to our making processes and why. What is the importance of "hand made"?. If we had a tool for everything, would we be rendered useless? This is a shop focused course.
I Am The Energy.
This course is held by the Telemeer Council for Science. While in this course, members will be working in a combination of design thinking and electrical engineering and theory. The course takes a critical look at energy production and use, especially in the Art industry, on both a global and local scale. Working closely with such companies as General Electric, Siemens, and Ikea, members and faculty are engaged in a 3 month intensive designed to give a full understanding of the implications of energy use, and open new doors to finding alternative ways of using and producing energy through products and processes.
